“Here's my honest assessment of Fibrenew Layton. My wife and I have leather sofas that are about 14 years old and heavily used. They were showing signs of their age and wear. We decided to get a quote to see how much it would cost us to refinish them vs. the cost of replacement. Replacing these sofas would have been around $6,000.00. Sy came to our home and gave us a bid for about $1,,100.00,. with a one year warranty. My wife and I decided to refinish the sofa's hop[ng to extend their life several more years. Sy spent the better part of a day here sanding and refinishing the couches. So here's my assessment: First, Sy is outstanding and has great customer service skills. His color match to the existing color is almost spot on. He even came back on a different date when I found a small spot that he missed. Our couches, without doubt, look better than they did before. Even though his color match is spot, the texture of the seat has changed and does not match the rest of the couch. Some of the stitching is also more abrasive than it was before. This is not Sy's fault as sanding is required to refinish the couch and there's no way for Sy to match the texture. The other problem is now that the seats are refinished, it makes the older parts that were not refinished stick out a bit more. Would I have made the same decision knowing the outcome? Maybe. In my case I believe it still makes more sense to refinish the couches than to replace them because I have three young kids that use the couches constantly. So it doesn't make sense for me to spend more money to have them worn out by my kids over the next few years. If I didn't have kids and it were just me and my wife then I probably would have replaced them. But without doubt I would recommend Sy and Fibrenew Layton to anyone who is considering refinishing their leather work.”
